     Based on writing this blog, I believe that I have gained an even greater understanding of the drug Advil. All I knew before was the fact that it helps relieve different types of pain, which includes muscle pains and migraines; I was not aware of how this drug was founded/discovered and what Advil was actually made out of (ibuprofen). I started to become very interested in Advil when I looked at its overall positive and negative effects. Due to my curiosity, I concluded that since Advil can relieve pain, it can probably be used as a type of pain suppressor, especially for athletes. This info greatly acquired my interest due to the fact that I too am an athlete. My curiosity thus led me to learn the fact that Advil as a pain suppressor for athletes does not boost abilities, but rather impact the body negatively. With this in mind, I will only use Advil for the purpose of curing me whenever I become sick. In conclusion, Advil is a drug that should only be used to cure illnesses of an individual, not as a pain suppressor for athletes.

Advil Interesting Facts

     Advil is one of the most effective drugs used to relieve pain. Some interesting facts about this drug includes the fact that it is:

• More potent and and better tolerated for aspirin.
• The first over-the-counter pain relief medication to enter stores.
• Causes fewer stomach problems than aspirin.
• One of the most effective drugs in relieving women's menstrual discomfort.
• Slows lung disease in patients with cystic fibrosis if a large amount is used.
• Increases risk of different types of adverse effects in athletes.
• Can cause serious health risks to athletes.
• Can heighten the risk of having heart circulation and heart problems if taking too much.
• Harmful to pregnant women if consumed.

Legal Issues and Use or Abuse

     Many people choose to use the product Advil due to its various effects in relieving different types of pain. Some of these pains include those of dental pain, headaches, menstrual cramps, muscle aches, and arthritis. Also, since this is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, so it is able to help decrease fever, pain, or swelling of a sick individual. This drug thus is good in relieving pains of all sorts.
     The overdose of Advil will create devastating side effects to the individual. If someone consumes too much of this drug, side effects may include vomiting, nausea, drowsiness, coughing up blood, shallow breathing, coma, fainting, and black or blood stools. If these side effects become apparent, it is mandatory to get emergency medical attention.

Conclusion

                                                      This drug was discovered by Dr. Stewart Adams and a few of his colleagues (John Nicholson and Colin Burrows) in the United Kingdom. Overall Advil is a very common and effective drug. Many people use it for pain relief in areas such as headaches, back pain, muscle aches, or arthritis.  Ibuprofen is not an addicting drug, the only reason why someone might use it a lot is so they can maintain their activity. This drug can be picked up at any convenient store and even gas stations. Advil is used in adults and children who are at least 2 years old. Do not use in children under 2 years of age without the supervision of a doctor.

Effects of Advil

    Advil relieves small aches and pains caused by: headaches, toothaches, backaches, menstrual cramps,  the common cold, muscular aches and minor pain of arthritis. Common side effects of Advil include: 

• Abdominal pain
• acid or sour stomach
• belching
• bloating
• cloudy urine

Some rare side effects include:

• Agitation
• back, leg, or stomach pains
• bleeding gums
• blistering, peeling, loosening of skin
• blood in urine or stools

    In a study published  in the journal Public Library of Science-Genetics, researchers treated baker’s yeast, worms and flies with ibuprofen and saw that the treatment added about 15 percent more to the species’ lives. These results were translated into human years and equaled about 12 years of extra living. Ibuprofen is not physically or psychologically addictive, but some people rely on it to maintain their activity.
